Today’s Free Play: ASU vs Marquette Total

Play Under 132

Both of these teams are a contrast of each other. ASU lacks a defensive presence but has great shooters all over the floor. They lead the country in three point shooting with several players that have over performed. But they also haven’t faced a team as talented defensively as Marquette or ventured on the road (Once to Texas A@M) this season. Marquette is one of those teams you can count to have a dead stall of offense for at least two small stretches and possibly even a seven minute stretch. They still have a lot of hold overs from the Buzz Williams regime that preached defense. New transfer Matt Carlino is an ignition for offense but also takes plenty of bad shots that I’m sure ASU Coach Herb Sendek will have at the top of his scouting report. Take the under

Line Value on Jaguars: Why Was Fitzpatrick Benched?

Two games this season from Ryan Fitzpatrick have been superb. Both of those games were against the Tennessee Titans. Fitzpatrick’s had chance after chance on the NFL field to flourish and has to be one of the more fortunate quarterbacks over the last ten years. I’m not taking anything away from Fitzpatrick but there is enough film over the years to realize he is not a starting quarterback.

He has always shown flashes of being a capable starter but that’s what they’ve been flashes. He was removed as starter for Ryan Mallet because the team needed better play from the quarterback position. Fitzpatrick wasn’t delivering accurate footballs and under pressure he is one of the worst quarterbacks in football.

Tennessee is void of a pass rush and gave Fitzpatrick all day to throw the football in both matchups. Before the half after a Tennessee punt, Fitzpatrick was able to deliver a 60 plus yard throw to his favorite target in Hopkins. It was a true blowout and a game that may cap Fitzpatrick’s career if the Texans choose to not bring him back.

Oddsmakers opened the line against Jacksonville at 3.5 and now it’s sitting as high as 7 in some spots. Be careful with this one as the Jaguars have the pressure to make it a long day for Ryan Fitzpatrick.

I would certainly take the Jaguars with the line inflation and would not be surprised if they win their second game in a row. Gus Bradley has done an underrated job with a team that has not folded even though their rookie quarterback has had his woes this season.

Can the Falcons turn a losing record into a playoff berth?

Wednesday, 26 November, 2014

Things are going from bad to worse in the NFL. Just four years after the 7-9 Seattle Seahawks became the first team in history to get to the playoffs holding a losing record, we could see the first 10-loss playoff team this year. All members of the awful NFC South have losing records, but despite how bad they’ve been this season, they still have a chance to make it to the playoffs.

If the season ended today, the 4-7 Atlanta Falcons would be in the playoffs and they are on pace to win just six games. The Falcons are listed as betting long shots to win the Super Bowl listed at +10,000 at most online sports betting sites.

To make things even more ridiculous, not only the Falcons could make the playoffs at 6-10 as NFC South champions, they would host a first-round playoff game against a Wild Card team that is likely to have 10 or 11 wins. Just one game behind the 4-5 Saints, the Falcons own a division-best 3-0 mark with one victory over New Orleans and two against the floating Bucs.

If that really happens, Atlanta would become just the second team in league lore to make the playoffs after losing five straight tilts during the regular season. That would be an embarrasement for the NFL, but will open the chance to analyze and implement the playoff format that the head of the competition committee has been proposing for years.

NFL’s head of the competition committee, Rich McKay, has made several tries to change the playoff format. The changes suggested include the fact that teams that play during the first weekend of playoff games (seeds 3-6) are seeded according to their regular season records and tiebreakers, regardless of whether they are a division champion or a Wild Card team.
A 6-10 playoff teams, or even worse, a 5-11 playoff team which is still possible, is probably what we need to get the number of votes needed to make bring some changes to the NFL.

WAIVER WIRE: POST WEEK TWELVE ADDS

A lot can change in a week’s time in fantasy football. Announcements have been made for quarterback changes with the Jets and Redskins. How about over in New England where coveted back Jonas Gray has suddenly faded into obsolete once again. All due to him being late for practice.

Here are some names to focus on to bolster your fantasy football rosters. Have a great Thanksgiving with your families and good luck in week thirteen.

Colt McCoy
McCoy delivered one of the better performances from a backup quarterback this season against the Cowboys. There is no denying that the Redskins offense is fantasy friendly. Cousins and RG3 have had their moments even though they’ve played below average for the most part. McCoy will go in to this with the mindset he has nothing to lose. That could result in some key games from McCoy.

Mark Sanchez
In deep, deep leagues you may want to take a look at Sanchez. He is obviously turnover prone but has shown enough in three starts to warrant a fantasy backup quarterback position. He is keeping the offense fluid and crisp and has delivered solid yardage outputs in all three starts.

LaTavius Murray
Murray’s ceiling is limited but he had one of the best runs of the season and it was nationally televised. There will be owners that want to see what else he can offer going forward. Take your chance as the Raiders backfield is the oldest in football. They may look to Murray as a sign for the future.

LeGarrette Blount
Blount’s game against the Lions will likely be his best game of the season. He just can’t be counted on for close to 80 yards at this point in his career. But the value he has for touchdowns is exponential. A big back on a New England team that is scoring at a high rate.

Toby Gerhart
The Jaguars offense has been far from pretty but a bright spot has been the backfield. DeNard Robinson had a solid five week stretch for fantasy owners and Storm Johnson had a brief window of fantasy output as well. This was all caused by Gerhart struggling with injuries most of the season. He has been brought back and involved slowly but I did notice a regained burst in his limited carries against the Colts.

Daniel Herron
Herron did fumble once in his twelve carries against the Jaguars. But with Trent Richardson’s struggles and Bradshaw out, the Colts have no choice but to rely on Herron to keep the defense honest.

Miles Austin
With Josh Gordon back in the fold the Browns will be looking to get the football to their stud receiver. That means more three wide receiver sets to get the defensive secondary a bit off balance. Austin is a savvy veteran that may be a shell of himself but he is still capable of snaring the football.

Tim Wright
The August trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers finally showed signs of paying off in Sunday’s win over the Lions. Rob Gronkowski has ascended himself over the last month as being back in shape and a premier tight end once again. With focus shifting back on Gronkowski it is allowing the Patriots to open up the middle of the field like they use to with Aaron Hernandez.

Louis Murphy
Mike Evans may be gobbling up all the touchdowns but there have been plenty of balls heading Murphy’s way too. The offense is void of a rushing attack and therefore they are having to allow on their big play receivers. Murphy has been an underrated third wide receiver in the NFL in stints throughout the league.

Kenny Stills
Anytime you get eight catches in the Saints offense you’re an automatic waiver wire pickup. Stills had a few key games as a rookie when injuries plagued the Saints. Now with Brandin Cooks out he has a chance once again to thrive in one of the most pass heavy offenses in the league.
