From Point B to Point A
By Zack Cimini
Indecision from a coach is something that can?t happen in the NFL. But for Arizona Cardinals coach Dennis Green he has had no choice. Josh McCown did lead them to a 4-2 record, but wasn?t maturing on a weekly basis. Basically his intangibles were limited, and he was scared to do anything with the football. Sure it?s great when you?re not throwing interceptions, but you still need to take chances down the field with the Cardinals receivers. McCown was playing as if he wanted to punt on every drive, and let the defense on the field. Being that cautious as a quarterback is absurd, and frustrating on a coach.
McCown will be given the starting job once again this week, because John Navarre is out with a broken finger. There really isn?t any pressure on McCown now, so it wouldn?t be shocking to see him finish the year stronger. He already knows that Dennis Green has no faith in him, so he can go out and play without any stress on his shoulders. What?s Green going to do, bring in Shaun King again? That?s the type of mentality McCown needs to play with, if he wants to get any offers from other teams in the off-season.
Clearly the Cardinals are going to have to draft a true quarterback of the future. There are plenty of solid college quarterbacks, and now is the time with the way the NFL is changing with younger quarterbacks. As far as I?m concerned McCown had his fair share of chances to showcase his talent. I don?t even think Green could be happy with either McCown or King as his backup next year. It?ll be best to let them both go, because there will be animosity among the player?s and coaches that the team doesn?t need next season.
