Line Value on Jaguars: Why Was Fitzpatrick Benched?

Two games this season from Ryan Fitzpatrick have been superb. Both of those games were against the Tennessee Titans. Fitzpatrick’s had chance after chance on the NFL field to flourish and has to be one of the more fortunate quarterbacks over the last ten years. I’m not taking anything away from Fitzpatrick but there is enough film over the years to realize he is not a starting quarterback.

He has always shown flashes of being a capable starter but that’s what they’ve been flashes. He was removed as starter for Ryan Mallet because the team needed better play from the quarterback position. Fitzpatrick wasn’t delivering accurate footballs and under pressure he is one of the worst quarterbacks in football.

Tennessee is void of a pass rush and gave Fitzpatrick all day to throw the football in both matchups. Before the half after a Tennessee punt, Fitzpatrick was able to deliver a 60 plus yard throw to his favorite target in Hopkins. It was a true blowout and a game that may cap Fitzpatrick’s career if the Texans choose to not bring him back.

Oddsmakers opened the line against Jacksonville at 3.5 and now it’s sitting as high as 7 in some spots. Be careful with this one as the Jaguars have the pressure to make it a long day for Ryan Fitzpatrick.

I would certainly take the Jaguars with the line inflation and would not be surprised if they win their second game in a row. Gus Bradley has done an underrated job with a team that has not folded even though their rookie quarterback has had his woes this season.

Fantasy football playoffs are officially here. Some season’s are done and others are on playoff bye weeks. For the teams that are seeded this week you really need to concentrate on puzzling your team together week by week. If you’re on a bye week it’s not time to feel all cozy and neglect possible adds to your team. Here are a few names that did well during Thanksgiving week in the NFL.

Mark Sanchez
Sanchez has erased doubts temporarily for the ongoing conclusion of the 2014 NFL season. His lease for fantasy football owners needs to be just that. I’m not sold on him as a top 12 fantasy quarterback in 2015, but for now his play warrants an add for fantasy football owners.

Ryan Fitzpatrick
Fitzpatrick is the quarterback with fifteen lives over the last decade. I’ve profiled him enough to not go into detail here but he keeps making the most of his extra chances. The rhythm he was in Sunday was a top five to ten quarterback performance of the season. Six touchdown passes only cements that statement further.

Daniel Herron
At first Trent Richardson’s struggles were laughable now it’s just a sad downward spiral. Herron has been a special teams player in the NFL and now he is the one taking carries away from Richardson. Herron had a fumble a few weeks ago but seems to be the scatback the Colts need.

Cole Beasley
I’m not sure what is going on with Terrance Williams but he has put up dud performances for well over a month. Jason Witten has always been a main cog in the offense along with Dez, but it looks like Cole Beasley is starting to trickle past Williams.

Others: Kenny Stills, Jonas Gray, and Jarvis Landry
