Team Rankings 9/19

Wednesday, 19 September, 2007

Our bi-weekly column of team rankings is here. With brief analysis of each and every team, find out where your team is ranked at.

1. New England
They rebuilt to prevent what happened against the Colts from happening again. The clash will happen, it just remains to be seen which teams suffers the worst injuries. It can’t hurt to be two games ahead of everyone in your division already.

2. Indianapolis
Tennessee always plays them tough. A lot of wins in the regular season won’t mean a thing if they can’t win in the playoffs.

3. San Diego
Have faced their toughest part of their schedule and came out of it .500.

4. Chicago
Hard to see Rex Grossman leading them to the Super Bowl again.

5. Dallas Cowboys
Playing very well but may be the Bengals of the NFC. Not having a defense won’t get you too far.

6. Denver Broncos
Wins are wins.

7. Pittsburgh Steelers
Playing great on both sides of the football.

8. Baltimore Ravens
McNair is already down but the Ravens will be just fine.

9. New Orleans
Can the NFC preseason favorites actually be this poor?

10. Jacksonville Jaguars
Week ones defensive performance hopefully was a one time thing. Now the Jaguars just need to get the running game back in motion.

11. Seattle Seahawks
They suffered a hard loss, thanks to an exchange by their Pro Bowl quarterback and running back.

12. Cincinnati Bengals
The Browns haven’t had that much offense if you put a month of 2006 together. You just can’t follow a big win by a loss like this, and expect to be a playoff team.
13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Jeff Garcia is doing what he does best. Lead teams.

14. Green Bay
The Packers must figure out their main option at running back.

15. San Francisco
Eking out two wins in improbable fashion may happen twice all year with a team. San Francisco has pulled it off two weeks in a row.

16. Houston Texans
They’ll be able to get to .500 and hover around this spot all year.

17. Detroit Lions
They’re off to a fast start but had the best schedule to start a season off with than any other team 2-0.

18. Tennessee Titans
Came close to pulling off another come back tight win. Tennessee just can’t separate themselves enough from the middle of the field in a tough AFC.

19. Minnesota Vikings
If it weren’t for their inexperienced quarterback the Vikings would be 2-0. They’ve got a great defense and the offensive line is doing a fine job as well. They may need to insert Bollinger or Kelly Holcomb.

20. New York Jets
Eric Mangini will have this team in line no matter what the Jets record is. That means they’re a dangerous team each week, and could go on a winning streak at any point.
21. Carolina Panthers
A brutal loss week two against the Texans may have just showed the true colors of the Panthers.

22. Washington Redskins
They faced a Dolphins team that will be towards the bottom of the league, and then a Philly team that just was off as a whole. They’re a growing team that may get away with being in the NFC. The Eagles and Giants though should creep right back on them.

23. Arizona Cardinals
New head coach Ken Whisenhunt definitely has changed the tune of the Cardinals. They had their luck of week one reversed to even their record to 2-0. Matt Leinart’s youth looks to be a year away from getting the Cardinals to a playoff caliber level.

24. Philadelphia Eagles
Get McNabb a receiver and things could look brighter. Their defense is still playing strong, and McNabb will work some tricks even at 80 percent.

25. St. Louis Rams
Scoring touchdowns is a problem, errrr.

26. Buffalo Bills
Had a tough start to their season against the Broncos and Steelers. Will those two losses roller coast a slide or help them gain some wins?

27. Oakland Raiders
If Jamarcus Russell is all he is hyped up to be, the Raiders may be a decent team a few years from now. Lamont Jordan is quietly becoming the leader for bounce back player of the year.

28. New York Giants
This team just wants a new head coach.

29. Miami Dolphins
This veteran defense can’t take it having to run onto the football field with quick three and outs and turnovers from the offense. If a running game doesn’t get established soon the defense will be burnt out by November.

30. Kansas City
Herman Edwards better be enjoying his contract money, because we’re positive he’d rather be coaching his old Jets team.

31. Cleveland
All teams get a key win in a year, Cleveland just got theirs early.

32. Atlanta
Leftwich has been on waivers for three weeks now. What does the signing of him now tell the rest of the NFL? How bad is it going to be to have to bench Joey Harrington, and tell him to come back out when Leftwich gets hurt?

Fan lovers love to be bias with their views on there teams being solid and this and that. Truth be told your team probably is below average but one way to find out is to view the truth. Where does your team sit at after week six?

Team Rankings Post Week Three

Friday, 30 September, 2005

The chaotic spins of uncharacteristic play are continuing but is becoming a bit clearer. It won’t be too long before we hear of a coach calling it quits. We love how that’s the label that is put on a coach when they announce their resignation. There is no coach that would quit on a team and walk away from millions. They’re always forced out and it’s just a better way of classifying a coach’s exit.

Team Rankings Post Week Three

1. New England (2)
There has to be something programmed into the Patriots that steps their intensity out of this world. For a team to always win close games is unbelievable.

2. Pittsburgh (1)
At least they know Roethlisberger does have the ability to throw.

3. Philadelphia (3)
McNabb may be living a year of the best for a quarterback facing constant walls. Owens in the summer, continuous injuries, and facing the stress of last year’s Super Bowl loss. No one wants to say it but he has the Eagles right back to where they need to be.

4. Indianapolis (5)
Is the defense for real or has it just been the way the Colts have managed games?

5. Atlanta (6)
Vick needs to be contained from running, or there is nothing a team can do.

6. Cincinnati (7)
Carson Palmer has been the best of any quarterback.

7. Tampa Bay (9)
3-0. Sooner or later Cadillac’s great games will be reduced, and we’ll all see if Brian Griese can lead the team.

8. Carolina (4)
Delhomme can only laugh about that interception and move on. At least he isn’t missing Mushin Muhammed.

9. Jacksonville (13)
They’re almost as good as New England when it comes to winning close games. Leftwich is going to need to be the leader the whole season. Any length of time without him could cost them a few precious games.

10. Kansas City (8)
It was just a game where they shouldn’t have stepped on the field.

11. Dallas (12)
Bledsoe looks three to four years younger than he did the past few seasons.

12. Denver (17)
Now that’s the Broncos that have been gone for two weeks.

13. Minnesota (15)
They’re right back in it.

14. San Diego (21)
Over using the main ingredient of LT needs to happen every week.

15. NY Giants (10)
The defense was non existent in the second half against the Chargers.

16. St. Louis (16)
They’re going to be inserting Ryan Fitzpatrick by midseason if they continue to have Bulger throw 100 passes a game.

17. Seattle (20)
Alexander four touchdowns. Maybe Seattle should offer him a long term deal.

18. NY Jets (11)
Bollinger and Testaverde as the Jets quarterbacks. Why not try to trade for Doug Flutie?

19. Washington (18)
When your not playing, you can’t move up in rankings.

20. New Orleans (14)
Players can make excuses suddenly when they’re losing. Joe Horn didn’t blab his comments about playing at NYG until after their loss to the Vikings. Come on, Joe.

21. Miami (27)
If the offense can score, they’ll be in a nice position to snatch one of the final AFC wild card spots.

22. Cleveland (22)
Are proving to be a heck of a lot tougher than expected.

23. Baltimore (19)
The bye week may have been too early for the Ravens.

24. San Francisco (31)
Rattay is pushing Alex Smith’s rookie experience back every week.

25. Oakland (24)
Rolling off some wins needs to happen now.

26. Tennessee (25)
Just the wrong mix of players for a transition period.

27. Buffalo (23)
There won’t be a push for the playoffs this year.

28. Chicago (28)
Thomas Jones is the best trade bait at running back.

29. Detroit (29)
If Harrington were ever to awake for a breakout game, this is the time.

30. Green Bay (26)
Is that three straight NFC North teams at the bottom five of the league?

31. Arizona (30)
How quick talks of a playoff run have whittled.

32. Houston (32)
David Carr got his week to go somewhere quiet and re-prepare for the season.

Post Week Two Team Rankings

Thursday, 22 September, 2005

Water parks usually close when the fall season comes about. The slides NFL teams continue to make in the team rankings disprove that. It looks as if parks will remain open for a long extended period of time.

Biggest Drop: Minnesota from 7th to 15th
Biggest Climb: Washington from 30th to 18th

Post Week Two Team Rankings

1. Pittsburgh (5)
Their philosophy can never be forced to be readjusted. Teams know what they can and can’t do, but still can’t game plan correctly for the Steelers. It works to the Steelers benefit every year in the regular season, but once playoff time comes that all of the sudden changes.

2. New England (1)
The days of New England dominating a regular season are over. At least going the year winning thirteen or fourteen games. Expect around eleven wins, but for that to add up once the playoffs come.

3. Philadelphia (3)
People can already shut their mouths on the TO and Donovan debate. It was all a show, or at least it was put on pause.

4. Carolina (4)
The nucleus of their team is intact for now. Injuries killed their chances last year, so this is really their year to defend their 2003 trip to the Super Bowl.

5. Indianapolis (6)
Two weeks have concluded in the explosive offense of the Colts has yet to show up. The defense has, and Tony Dungy is ecstatic over that.

6. Atlanta (2)
It was tough going all the way to Seattle. They almost clawed their way back to a win.

7. Cincinnati (10)
As impressive as any team so far.

8. Kansas City (13)
It looks like KC is going to bring it this year.

9. Tampa Bay (15)
They look like they have the elite of Cadillac’s in the NFL.

10. NY Giants (12)
They’re still waiting for that breakout game from Eli.

11. NY Jets (8)
They won last week but didn’t impress enough against the Dolphins. Curtis Martin’s banged up knee is also a bad sign.

12. Dallas (9)
They let a solid almost complete game slip away. Some teams have a hard time following a loss like that. It’s time for Parcells to make his great coaching come to use.

13. Jacksonville (14)
They demonstrated a complete team concept. Hey, you win and lose as a team.

14. New Orleans (11)
Is the inconsistent trend going to start again?

15. Minnesota (7)
Something has to go their way this week.

16. St. Louis (17)
Not much to say about their win over the Cardinals.

17. Denver (17)
Champ Bailey led their comeback. That can be a sad or a good thing.

18. Washington (30)
In two months we’ll look back and know of one thing. The Redskins got off to a great start because of the usual rustiness of teams, or because their defense continues to dominate and the offense adds a little spice.

19. Baltimore (19)
The best 0-2 team in the league. Will we be saying the best 0-3 next week.

20. Seattle (23)
Maybe they can win the division at 9-7 again.

21. San Diego (18)
Scratch last year from your memory, that wasn’t supposed to happen.

22. Cleveland (27)
Dilfer already has my vote for comeback athlete of the century and year.

23. Buffalo (20)
Losman is going to have his struggles.

24. Oakland (20)
Their tough schedule is only going to get worse.

25. Tennessee (26)
Remember the titans of 1999?

26. Green Bay (24)
At least they can look up in their division and see more than daylight. They’re falling in the same trap as last year. This time though, they might be trapped for good.

27. Miami (25)
This team needs to play a couple more games before we can figure out what to expect.

28. Chicago (32)
Their defense wins them more games a year than any other team. That’s any time they do get a win.

29. Detroit (22)
Mr. Harrington better prepare to wear a headset.

30. Arizona (28)
Kurt Warner can chuck the ball all he wants, but if the Cardinals can’t find a running back they’re going to keep losing.

31. San Francisco (31)
They can look back at this year and say they were once leading the Eagles and tied with the Eagles in the standings. Week one and two.

32. Houston (29)
Playoff dreams will be hibernating in 2005.

End of Week One Team Rankings

Friday, 16 September, 2005

Change can’t go out of control in one week. So for the most part teams will hang around the top ten that were ranked there in the preseason. Even teams that start off 2-2. Just because a record is average doesn’t mean that team isn’t better than someone 3-1 or 4-0. When late October comes by that’s when a true picture of the real teams will begin to be foreseeable.

Biggest fall off:
Houston Texans from the nineteenth rank to twenty ninth.

Biggest Jump:
Buffalo from thirtieth spot to the twentieth.

1. New England (1)
Will things ever be different? This team must eat a lot of Wheaties, because they know how to win every week.

2. Atlanta (2)
It was good for the Falcons to be able to knock off the team that bounced them out last season. They’ll be facing the Eagles later down the road this season, so they’ll need to stay just as aggressive.

3. Philadelphia (3)
They were without their star linebacker and only lost because of the Falcons getting a few touchdowns early in the first quarter. Terrell Owens is off to another fantastic year, and Brian Westbrook may be the fastest back when hitting a hole.

4. Carolina (5)
Their running and passing game is back. The defense isn’t the best at stopping teams, but they make up for that with their turnover ability.

5. Pittsburgh (7)
No team can run the football as well as the Steelers. Ben Roethlisberger has been starting for almost a year now, and we still can’t fully evaluate his skills.

6. Indianapolis (8)
Baltimore’s offense didn’t enough to warrant the Colts defense a raving rating. If they can just slow down great offenses than the Colts may finally be able to defeat the Patriots.

7. Minnesota (6)
Culpepper is going to have to move past last weeks performance. There is too much pressure on him to let one game dwell in his mind.

8. New York Jets (4)
There are all sorts of concerns with the Jets now. Their defense gave up a fortune of yards on the ground, and Pennington still can’t find zip in his throws.

9. Dallas (9)
Impressive road win, and equally impressive debut by Drew Bledsoe. The team looks rejuvenated, especially Keyshawn Johnson.

10. Cincinnati (12)
The Bengals are creeping on their AFC opponents, and are have a serious shot at winning the division title.

11. New Orleans (18)
Will the Saints march come to a halt, or move in a steadily climb?

12. NY Giants (14)
Jumped out the gates with an offensive attack.

13. Kansas City (17)
We’ve seen this before in early weeks of the regular season from the defense.

14. Jacksonville (22)
As long as Jimmy Smith stays solid, Leftwich is going to improve by the weeks.

15. Tampa Bay (24)
Carnell Williams looks like the early ROY winner.

16. St. Louis (10)
Lets hope they just under valued the 49ers.

17. Denver (11)
An embarrassing week one loss. It was a dismal display on both sides of the ball. Denver’s franchise could be under serious jeopardy in the coaching and quarterback departments.

18. San Diego (13)
Tough losses like the one they had against the Cowboys, can’t happen if they want to return to the playoffs.

19. Baltimore (15)
The defense needs some sort of help.

20. Buffalo (30)
The defense may be able to carry this team to some extra wins that they shouldn’t get.

21. Oakland (23)
Kerry Collins needs to play consistent for an entire game instead of just stretches. Still the Raiders played well against the defending Super Bowl champs.

22. Detroit (26)
The Lions did this last year, and look to be off to another 2-0 start.

23. Seattle (16)
Hit the alarm button, jobs are on the line.

24. Green Bay (20)
The Pack are fading to the back of the pack.

25. Miami (27)
Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas continue to wreck offenses.

26. Tennessee (25)
The defense can’t allow that many rushing yards every week, can they?

27. Cleveland (29)
Trent Dilfer and the Browns offense may actually do alright this year.

28. Arizona (21)
A team can’t win without an offensive line.

29. Houston (19)
Pitiful opening week.

30. Washington (29)
Mark Brunell’s ninth life.

31. San Francisco (32)
At least they won’t have to count on the Cardinals for wins this year.

32. Chicago (31)
The passing game isn’t threatening. It causes the most aggressive style of defense possible, because they can just attack.

Team Rankings

Monday, 5 September, 2005

Team rankings may bore you, but they’re often associated in a perfect link to your fantasy football players. The teams that are ranked highly have more dominant players, because they’re scoring the points to win games. Without points, you don’t have yardage, and without yardage you have a loss with your fantasy football team. Now that we’ve spun your mind with extra wordage nonsense, here’s a look at the team rankings as the football season commences.

1. New England
Dynasties were suppose to end with the Cowboys. Nope, and now the Patriots are on the verge of becoming legendary. For some reason three Super Bowls in four years hasn’t done that.

2. Atlanta
Catapulting to the top over the Eagles seemed probable last season. The only obstacle that keeps holding them back is Vick’s accuracy. This seems to be the year that he can overcome that area, and begin to write his successful story.

3. Philadelphia
All jargon aside, the light is still bright in Philadelphia. McNabb and Owens will need to make up, and once that happens it’ll be another trip deep into the playoffs.

4. New York Jets
The addition of Ty Law is going to be the key ingredient on defense, especially come playoff time. The Jets style of play is similar to the Steelers. They’ll grind it out and make the necessary plays at the end of games. They know how to win, and as long as Pennington stays healthy, they’ll be the strongest contender to knock off New England.

5. Carolina
This is a shocking spot, but also deserving for the Panthers. They are only two years removed from representing the NFC in the Super Bowl, and they went through a year that no team should have last season. Injuries caused their season to be cut short, but they also never gave up. They were the hottest team at the end of last year, and there are a lot of good things to look at on their team. They’re deep at wide receiver, running back, and they have a veteran quarterback in Jake Delhomme that has the most confidence he has ever had. Not to mention their defense is one of the best at turning turnovers into points themselves.

6. Minnesota
Their defense has really improved, and the Vikings are looking to finally add a running game to the offense.

7. Pittsburgh
It’s going to be a long season if the Steelers are going to keep seeing Bettis and Staley listed on the injury report.

8. Indianapolis
Their shaky preseason, should be an afterthought. The defense won’t be though.

9. Dallas
As long as Drew Bledsoe can be a little bit of his old form, than the Cowboys will be inching their way to the top of this list.

10. St. Louis
If offense could win championships, than St. Louis would be a lock. It’s almost a given that they’ll be neck and neck with Indianapolis and Kansas City for points scored. Their offense may be even better than their Super Bowl days at this point.

11. Denver
There have been a lot of borderline seasons for the Broncos, and now Shanahan is feeling the heat. If Plummer can limit his turnovers, and the defense plays a little better, than the Broncos will win their division and look good heading into the playoffs.

12. Cincinnati
It’s all coming together for the Bengals. If the Steelers running back problems continue, they have a great shot at winning the division title.

13. San Diego
Many people would put the Chargers up higher, but it appears a downfall is apparent this season. Antonio Gates isn’t going to jump on everyone again, and there goes the Chargers threats downfield. Any type of bad play by Brees is going to draw too much swirling controversy, that is ultimately going to keep this team from reaching the playoffs. Plus, there division is much improved from last year.

14. NY Giants
The Giants were a playoff team last year, before they inserted Eli Manning. Manning is going to show his worth this season, and the Giants will nab a fifth or sixth wild card seed.

15. Baltimore
Their defense is so amazing, that it’s a shame their offense is going to be the worst in the league. Jamal Lewis will not be able to make it thru the season, if Kyle Boller can’t step it up.

16. Seattle
It may be the end of the road for Mike Holmgren. The Seahawks are going to have a very tough time keeping up with the Rams, and even the Cardinals.

17. Kansas City
How can they score so many points without a receiver? The answers are Priest Holmes, Larry Johnson, Tony Gonzalez, and the fact that Trent Green is underrated.

18. New Orleans
Always a sketchy team, that can never be figured out. The tragedy to their city may help create an extra will for this team, that doesn’t even know where they’ll be playing the majority of their games.

19. Houston
The climb to playoff success is going to be put on hold, just due to the overpowering teams in the AFC conference.

20. Green Bay
A bad year is brewing in Green Bay. Frustration was already evident in the preseason, and that’s a bad sign.

21. Arizona
Many people are jumping on the Cardinals band wagon, but soon people will jump off while on. Their offensive line may be the worst in the league, and JJ Arrington is a rookie behind it. Also, Kurt Warner has been about as durable as ice cream in Arizona summer heat.

22. Jacksonville
Before mid season, Byron Leftwich is going to be wanting to call it quits. By then Fred Taylor should be hurt, and Jimmy Smith is still their number one receiver. Leftwich is one of the best young quarterbacks in the league, but he needs some help.

23. Oakland
Not until Lamont Jordan shows his worth, will we believe the Raiders can have any type of success.

24. Tampa Bay
The Bucs are a dark horse team. If Brian Griese is really on the right track, then the Buccaneers will be a definite potential wild card team.

25. Tennessee
Changes are needed, but at least talent is in key areas.

26. Detroit
The soon to be team that bugs the heck out of Minnesota.

27. Miami
Their defense is still good, and offense can only get better from last season.

28. Washington
Any bets on who’s quarterback of the Redskins by seasons end? Our bet, no one on their current roster.

29. Cleveland
A sly move already made by Romeo Crennel, in moving Charlie Frye to second string quarterback.

30. Buffalo
The woeful Losman chronicles begin.

31. Chicago
Da Bears.

32. San Francisco
Oh man.
